What is 265 V. I have 220V is this the same?

Question by Audra R. Stern Jr. (Posted on 5/2/2019)

    Hi Audra,

265V single phase is known as 277V and is used predominantly in industrial/commercial buildings as means to reduce wire size for high ampacity loads. Whereas most residential building are wired for 240V single phase. Depending on the appliance, this would also be referred to as 220V (Dryer) or 230/208V (Air Conditioner).
